What is IPL?
Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatment is a non-surgical way to brighten skin and even out skin texture. IPL is different from laser treatments because it sends out more than one wavelength of pulsating light and can treat various skin concerns at the same time.
Benefits of IPL Treatment
- Reduce the appearance of acne lesions and scarring
- Reduce signs of aging
- Reduce pigmentation
- Reverse sun damage
- Treat vascular lesions
- Remove freckles and other dark spots on the skin
- Remove spider veins
- Improve skin redness around the nose or cheeks
- Evens out skin tone and texture
- Improve fine lines and wrinkles
- Skin brightening
Ideal Candidate
A consultation will be necessary to decide whether you will make a good candidate for an IPL treatment. IPL patients see the best results when they are looking to brighten or remove dark spots from their skin. The ideal candidate for IPL treatment will have fair to light-brown skin colour. IPL is not recommended for people who are pregnant, sensitive to light, have been tanning, or take certain medications.
Treatment and Recovery
During IPL treatment, the pulses may cause a snapping sensation & warmth but are typically very well tolerated. Following your treatment, brown spots will darken and skin may appear red for 3-24 hours. Your improved complexion should be visible 1-3 weeks post-treatment. Best results typically require a series of 3 to 5 appointments, spaced 1 month apart. There is little downtime required after an IPL treatment, and most patients return to day-to-day activities immediately after their appointment.
