What are Fillers
Dermal Fillers are a non-surgical cosmetic procedure used to plump up aging skin. Dermal Fillers are injected into different areas of the skin depending on where it is needed. Most fillers are made up of sterile hyaluronic acid gels, which are naturally occurring substances in the skin. There are several different kinds of dermal fillers used by HealthCare professionals. The knowledgeable and professional staff at South Okanagan Laser and Skin clinic will discuss which kind of dermal filler will be best for you. Results are often seen immediately and can last between 12-18 months depending on the area treated.

Ideal Candidate
As we age, we lose collagen in our skin. Collagen is what keeps your skin looking youthful, plump, and smooth. Low collagen production is the culprit for skin laxity (loose skin) and loss of volume. The ideal candidate for Dermal Fillers would be someone who is experiencing these symptoms. If you notice that your skin doesn’t look as youthful as it once did, or you are noticing fine lines, wrinkles, and hollowing, Dermal Fillers will be a great option for you.
Common Areas to Treat
- Lip Filler: Dermal fillers are frequently used to improve the volume and contour of the lips, often referred to as “Lip Filler”. They can be used to smooth out asymmetry, give fullness to the lip’s body, and define the cupid’s bow.
- Cheek Filler: To give the cheeks more volume and definition and to give them a more youthful appearance, dermal fillers can be used. In order to give the cheeks a more chiselled and defined appearance, they can also be used to contour and shape them.
- Nasolabial Fold Filler: Nasolabial folds, commonly referred to as “laugh lines” or “smile lines,” run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth. Dermal fillers can be used to smooth out and soften their appearance.
- Under Eye Filler: Dermal fillers can be used to increase volume to the under-eye area, which will make dark circles and hollows less obvious. Additionally, They can also be used to enhance the under-eye area and make it look more refreshed and rejuvenated.

Treatment and Recovery
Dermal Fillers are a very common treatment in North America. It is estimated that 3 million people per year choose to get Dermal Fillers to prevent or reduce signs of aging. During the treatment, your South Okanagan Skin and Laser practitioner will cleanse your skin, apply a numbing cream (depending on your needs), and then inject the filler into the skin using a small needle. Your treatment will take between 30-45 minutes.
At South Okanagan Skin and Laser clinic in Penticton, we have different options to make you feel more comfortable during your treatment. You can choose between numbing cream, or Pro–Nox™ (laughing gas) to reduce pain and discomfort.
Recovering after receiving Dermal Fillers requires minimal downtime. Most patients do not experience any side effects. However, you may experience some minor swelling, bruising, redness, or tenderness around the injection site. These side effects will subside within one week. We recommend not getting Dermal Fillers less than a week before a major event or vacation to allow time for side effects to subside.
How long will my results last?
