Chemical Peels are essential for maintaining and restoring skin’s health and appearance. Performed by our skincare professionals, these exfoliating treatments help resurface the uppermost layer of the skin to reveal new, healthy skin underneath. Chemical peels are available in a variety of formulations and concentrations to target various skin concerns including fine lines and wrinkles, blemishes, enlarged pores, and uneven skin tone.
SkinCeuticals Chemical Peels are facial treatments that work to exfoliate the skin’s surface to reduce the appearance of blemishes, wrinkles, fine lines, and textural issues. There are different levels of chemical peel intensity that range from surface level exfoliation to higher penetrating peels. Depending on your skin type, sensitivity, and overall skin concerns your licensed practitioner at South Okanagan Laser and Skin Centre will help you decide which peel will be best for you. The peel is initiated by different acids that exfoliate the skin. Some of these acids are, AHA (alpha hydroxy acid), BHA (beta-hydroxy acid), and TCA (trichloroacetic acid). These acids work to dissolve the top layer of skin to reveal healthier and younger-looking skin.
Alpha hydroxy acid is used on the skin when the client’s skin concerns are centred around ageing. These concerns include fine lines, wrinkles, dullness, and uneven texture.
Beta-hydroxy acid is used on the skin when the client’s skin concerns are centred around blemishes, large pores, and uneven texture.
Trichloroacetic acid is used on the skin when the client is showing more visible signs of ageing and discoloration caused by sun damage, acne, or hormones.
Most people will be eligible for a SkinCeuticals Chemical Peel. Your knowledgeable and professional skin care practitioner at South Okanagan Skin and Laser Centre in Penticton will assess your skin’s Fitzpatrick Skin type, skin concerns, and sensitivities prior to applying any product to the skin. The Fitzpatrick skin type is a scale of how likely your skin is to burn or cause a pigmentation response. It is not recommended for people to get a Chemical Peel if they have certain skin conditions like psoriasis or eczema.
The level of peel you get done will determine the recovery process. A superficial chemical peel will usually cause some mild redness that can last up to 5 days. If you get a deeper penetrating peel, you could experience redness, swelling, and blistering that will peel for up to 14 days post-treatment. With these, your practitioner may send you home with some bandages to be applied a few days after the treatment. It is highly encouraged that all clients use a broad spectrum SPF after getting a SkinCeuticals Chemical Peel because it will make your skin more photosensitive – making it more prone to sunburns and sun damage. You should remain out of the sun as much as possible after a chemical peel.
